Trent Reznor – leaving the Metal Sludge behind

Trent Reznor of NIN is “will be tuning out of the social networking sites” You can check out the full details in his post here

Trent made a comment toward the end of his post "Anyway, we're in a world where the mainstream social networks want any and all people to boost user numbers for the big selloff and are not concerned with the quality of experience."

It seems to me he may have attempted to work with "mainstream social networks" to be read Twitter, to eliminate this stream of sludge. His profile on Twitter now reads "Bio Nine Inch Nails. This profile is now one-way, NIN / EDLC -related only, No @replies read until Twitter improves blocking"

I know you can one click block users on Twitter. and with 645,949 followers, it may be quite a daunting task to keep sludge from creating new user accounts and coming back day after day. I would imagine other Twitter celebrities have the same issue with their own types of sludge.

This raises a question about mainstream social networks and the ability to manage what I will term harassment. This is a public figure who has become involved with his fans and the public in a remarkable way over the past couple of years and is now retreating out of what I think is frustration.

I think there is an opportunity here to Stop Sludge on social networks and to help users manage their inbound noise.
